Mi Familia Vota said the main point of the party was to stress the importance of knowing where Congress stands on important issues.

No matter your party preference, most people we spoke with just wanted to make sure they were informed. Especially, with this being an election year for local Congress representatives.

"We have endured floods, fires, and storms but through it all, we have seen the beauty of America's soul and the steel in America's spine," President Donald Trump said.

Households across the U.S. watched as President Trump talked tax reform, national security, the American workforce, infrastructure, and trade.

Mark Johnson of the Fresno County Republican Party said, "The president did a wonderful job a very optimistic speech a very unifying speech."

At the forefront of the president's first State of the Union address, immigration. Dozens of young immigrants sat in the House gallery as guests of House Democrats.

They are among the nearly 700,000 people who have received protection from deportation under the DACA program. A topic Sunnyside High School senior, Bridgette Rodriguez, says hits close to home.

"I know a lot of people who came here as young children, such as my cousins, my sister, my brother," Rodriguez said.

For those reasons, she says she was offended by the president's immigration remarks. However, Fresno County Republican Party Vice Chair feels this is the most comprehensive immigration reform plan since Ronald Regan.

Mi Familia Vota hosted their annual State of the Union watch party, where viewers watched diligently.

State Director of Mi Familia Vota, Samuel Molina said, "There's been a lot of dislike towards this president, we need to make sure we listen to what he says."

Citing the fact that this is an election year, Mi Familia Vota said the main point of the party was to stress the importance of knowing where Congress stands on important issues.
