BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KFSN) -- A police officer that shot and killed a man in Bakersfield was found "legally justified" in using deadly force after the man would not comply.

Officer Reagan Selman fired seven shots at 73-year-old Francisco Serna when Serna refused to show his hands to officers in front of his home. The shooting was back in December of 2016.

The Police Department's Board of Review had originally cleared the officer following the shooting-- but the District Attorney's office chose to review the incident.

The victim's family said Serna was suffering from dementia when he was shot and killed.

The DA's Office has determined officer Selman acted reasonably in using deadly force.
