Fresno Pacific University opens food pantry
A new addition at Fresno Pacific University will provide for students in need and their families.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A new addition at Fresno Pacific University will provide for students in need and their families.

School officials celebrated the grand opening of the campus' Sunbird Pantry this afternoon.

Local organizations including the Community Food Bank are contributing fresh produce and some toiletries to the pantry.

It is a project that began years ago on a smaller scale, but as the need grew school leaders made the decision to expand.

"Most people don't realize because we are private school they think we are expensive. 54 percent comes from families with less than $40, 000," said Fresno Pacific University Joseph Jones.

The pantry will be staffed by volunteers. All students are welcome to use the pantry.

The pantry is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. To 3 p.m.
