FRIANT, Calif. (KFSN) -- Four people are badly hurt and a fifth is headed to the Fresno County Jail after an early morning crash.

The crash happened on Friant Road near Lost Lake just after 3 a.m. on Monday. Officials say a silver Infiniti was driving in the wrong lane when it crashed head on into a green Saturn.

A sheriff's deputy on patrol witnessed the entire crash.

"A Fresno County Deputy observed the vehicle driving the wrong way on Friant when they basically hit head-on with another vehicle heading south. So the wrong way driver was driving north in the southbound lanes, heavily intoxicated, he's been arrested for felony DUI," said Edward Jacobs, CHP.

Four people in the Saturn had to be taken to the hospital. The driver of the Infiniti was given a field sobriety test, placed in handcuffs and put in the back of a CHP cruiser. Officials say he will face charges for felony DUI.

The crash has been cleared and Friant Road is now back open.
