Arrest made in the fatal hit-and-run of an Atwater teen

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The person police say is responsible for a hit-and-run in Atwater has been arrested.

Jarrod Mellow, 30, was booked into the Merced County jail on charges of manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. Mellow is suspected of hitting and killing 16-year-old Eric Ruiz on Saturday. Family members say the teen was skateboarding along Shaffer Road in Atwater at the time he was hit.

Surveillance video from an elementary school across the street helped officers in their investigation.
