FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- An attempted murder suspect is in police custody after a pursuit and standoff that lasted hours in Fresno County on Monday.

The suspect has been identified as Steven Wasson, 24, of Selma. He is wanted for attempted murder in Hanford and is now back in that city being interviewed by police. It took the Fresno County SWAT Team to track Wasson down to a trash dumpster on a property near Willow and Mountain View avenues.

More than 50 law enforcement officers were on hand to find the suspect. A massive perimeter -- about a mile in all directions -- was set up, and SWAT officers arrived in tactical gear to close in on the property.

Investigators say Wasson appears to have no connection to the property. They initially thought he was hiding in a trailer. He made his way there around 2 p.m. when he sped away from police. We're told Hanford police tracked Wasson to a home in Fresno County. They were watching him, when he ran from them.

"They were actually surveilling a house in southern Fresno County. During that time they did make the suspect and they got into a vehicle pursuit with him. It was during that time that they started requesting assistance from the sheriff's office and from CHP," said Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Curtice.

Deputies say Wasson is wanted for trying to kill someone last Wednesday in Hanford. They won't say whether Wasson was armed -- as they initially believed him to be -- because the investigation is now back in the hands of Hanford police and the Kings County District Attorney's Office.

Wasson is facing a list of charges, including that attempted murder charge and a felony for running from law enforcement.

We understand the owner of the property where investigators say Wasson was hiding out was home when he went into hiding. She was evacuated shortly after.

It's not clear if Wasson was injured while being taken into custody.
