PLAINVIEW, Calif. (KFSN) -- A baby girl is in critical condition after she was burned in a Tulare County house fire Monday night.

The house is boarded up now because of the damage from the fire. On the inside of what used to be a window is a bedroom, and her family said the little girl was there asleep when the fire broke out.

A disintegrating crib, a torched mattress, an ember-soaked my little pony. The signs of a life and a childhood flipped upside-down. Family members said it happened when a mother left her daughter to nap. "She left the baby there and went to her mother-in-law's there. Came back, and the house was on fire and the baby was in there. She went crazy," said David DeJesus, victim's uncle.

The mother-in-law's house is right next door.

The mother could barely function and the girl's life started to slip away until her grandmother went inside the home. "The grandma got her and gave her CPR, brought the baby back to life," said DeJesus.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and with reports the little girl's two siblings might still be inside, they set aside safety procedures for a potential rescue. "Our company officer didn't have two in, two out, made the entry did a primary search to locate those children," explained Kevin Riggi, Tulare County Fire Battalion Chief.

As it turned out, the two and three-year-olds weren't inside. They were next door.

An ambulance hurried their sister to the hospital, and firefighters stopped the flames from spreading to the rest of the home. But when they finished, the family was left to sift through the destruction that was once their home. "Their TV, their furniture, everything, they lost it," said DeJesus.

The little girl is now in critical condition, but she's expected to survive.

Fire investigators are still looking into how the fire started.
