Southeast Fresno hit-and-run crash leaves boy, 9, critical
A 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash in Southeast Fresno.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 8-year-old boy is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Southeast Fresno.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday on Kings Canyon Road near Whitney Avenue. Police say a mother and her two children were crossing the street from the Sunlite Market, when the little boy was hit.

Fresno Police said when paramedics arrived, the boy was unresponsive with no pulse, but they were able to revive him on the way to the to Community Regional Medical Center. The boy later was taken into surgery where he was pronounced deceased.

Authorities are now trying to track down the driver. Police said the vehicle was a dark colored 4-door car, possibly a Nissan or other Japanese model.

"We're also asking the public if anyone saw anything, the suspect vehicle was described as a dark or black Altima or Camaro type vehicle continued traveling west on Kings Canyon," said Fresno Police Lt. Phil Cooley.

There is no crosswalk in the area where the family was crossing, but the driver could face felony charges for leaving the scene. Police say it's not clear yet if the suspect was speeding.
