Crash near Atwater kills boy on lawn mower

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a 12-year-old boy on a lawn mower west of Atwater.

Officers say the boy was driving the lawn mower on Westside Boulevard near Sultana Drive on Saturday when he was hit by a Ford Mustang.

The collision knocked the child off the lawn mower. He was rushed to a Turlock hospital then flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he died.

Investigators say the 19-year-old driver of the Mustang was speeding while trying to change lanes when the crash happened, but they haven't said whether he will be charged.
