PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- The Democratic National Convention was called to order amid tensions on multiple fronts -- including controversy surrounding Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and angry Bernie Sanders supporters.

Even with the replacement speaker, it didn't even go off without a hitch: she started walking off the stage without actually using the gavel to call the convention to order.

Wasserman Schultz announced Sunday that she would be resigning in the wake of an email scandal in which it appeared she and other party officials were trying to aid Hillary Clinton and hurt Sanders, but she planned to gavel the convention in and out.

Shortly after she appeared at a Florida delegation breakfast this morning and had to shout over a booing crowd, it was confirmed that she would not be the one to call the session to order.

Instead it was Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the mayor of Baltimore, in her capacity of secretary of the Democratic National Committee.

She addressed the convention and welcomed attendees before calling the convention to order. Rawlings-Blake started to walk off the stage before realizing that she forgot to use the gavel to formally launch the convention. She quickly ran back to the podium and hit the gavel.
