Fig Garden homeowner opens fire after attempted robbery

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A failed robbery attempt led to gunfire by the victim in the Fig Garden area of Fresno County on Thursday.

Sheriff's deputies say the victim was home alone when his front door was kicked in at about 1 p.m. near Palm and Ashlan avenues. The homeowner grabbed his gun and confronted the suspect in the entryway of the home.

The suspect ran out the front door with the victim chasing after him. The suspect jumped into a black Dodge Charger which was parked in front of the house. That's when the victim fired his handgun in the direction of the vehicle.

The car then sped away, traveling west on Ashlan.
