FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A fire destroyed a condominium in East Central Fresno on Friday. The fire started just before noon at the Ranchwood Condominiums at Chestnut and Lane avenues.

Firefighters limited the damage to just one unit. But because an adjacent unit had recently been damaged by fire, they had to tear apart the roof and walls to douse all the flames.

"Very typical in fires like this we have to expose a lot of the structure to make sure we found all the deep seated fire and small embers that can get into those voided areas," said Lawrence French with the Fresno Fire Department.

Fire investigators aren't sure how the fire started, and they don't know if there's any connection to the previous fire. The unit was not occupied. One resident of an adjacent residence had to be relocated.
