FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A fire in Southeast Fresno caused a lot of damage on Sunday and sent one person to the hospital.

The flames broke out around 6:30 p.m. near Hazelwood and First. They quickly destroyed a garage and an outbuilding. One home also suffered heavy damage, while a second home had some minor damage.

Officials say one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, but it's fortunate no one else was injured considering a number of safety issues at the scene.

"We had power lines above them, they were shorting out, arcing and dropping sparks on the ground. Simultaneously, we had a natural gas relief valve that fed the residential structure that was pouring natural gas out," said Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Lawrence French. "So we had combustible gas, we had sparks from arcing overhead power lines, we had multiple buildings involved."

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire and exactly where it started.
