Footage of officer-involved shooting that killed 19-year-old released, family's lawyer reacts

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- After nearly three weeks since police shot and killed Dylan Noble the body camera footage of the deadly confrontation is now out to the public.

Two officers fired at the 19-year-old during a traffic stop in late June. Since then, the shooting has sparked widespread community outrage.

It's the highly controversial encounter captured on what will become highly scrutinized video.

For weeks, Noble's family has been demanding the video's release. On Wednesday, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer showed it to the public. Walking through each of the four shots the two officers fired.

"Each of the rounds fired by the officer will be looked at individually to determine to the decision if the decision to fire each round was based on a reasonable fear of that officer."

In the video, you can hear officers giving Noble more than 30 commands to stay in the car-- show his hands-- then get on the ground.

More than a minute and a half later the officers fire the first two shots.

Noble falls to the ground, and that's when Chief Dyer said he's anticipating the questions to come.

"Primarily were the last two rounds fired by the officers necessary, based on a reasonable fear, did the officers have to use deadly force. I do not have the answer to that today."

The attorney for Noble's family said they disagree's with the Chief's assessment. They describe the incident as a simple traffic stop and if officers had followed protocol, Noble would still be alive.

"They are wondering why Dylan acted a certain way, I don't understand why professional officers acted the way they did. Not only did they shoot him twice, they shot him twice down on the ground when he was bleeding. That's not the society we live in," said Warren Paboojian, attorney for Noble's father.

The video's release is just the first of many steps. Chief Dyer said the District Attorney's Office should wrap up their investigation in August.

There is also an internal investigation.

Meanwhile, Noble's mother has already filed a wrongful death claim.

"I promise you, I'm going to make the right decision. The right decision for the officers, the right decision for the community."

We expect Noble's family to file another wrongful death claim. The attorney for noble's father is expected to do that Thursday.
