FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A DUI crash victim is on the road to recovery and as she fights to get back to normal, her family and friends are working to save the next victim.

Emily Krieghoff was a passenger in her best friend's car when a drunk driver ran a red light and hit them. Her friend, Molly Griffin, was one of two people killed in the crash.

That crash was 25 days ago and Emily just got out of the hospital on Wednesday. She was in Northeast Fresno on Friday at a blood drive in her honor and got to feel the love from the Fresno Christian School community.

When a drunk driver killed Molly Griffin in Northeast Fresno, her best friend was by her side and her injuries almost killed her too. Emily Krieghoff was already in a life-saving surgery by the time her family found out about the crash hours later.

"When Clovis PD knocked on our door, that was a difficult moment," said Kathy Krieghoff, Emily's mother.

Word of the crash reverberated throughout the Fresno Christian School community. Both Emily and Molly graduated from the school in 2009.

Emily needed 13 units of AB+ blood to keep her alive, and she got it. To make sure others like her get the blood they need, her mother and her Fresno Christian School family filled the blood center bus on Friday to make donations. To make sure Emily knows she has the support of hundreds, the school's students and staff made her a video.

Emily still has a long recovery ahead of her. She suffered some brain injury, and broke her pelvis, her clavicle, and some ribs in the crash. But she's come a long way in a short time physically -- and emotionally, she has a whole team behind her.

Emily's supporters will hold another blood drive at Buchanan High School on April 12.
