FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno man has been arrested and booked into jail on animal cruelty charges. Fresno police say Lovell Jefferson, 47, shot a kitten in the head with a BB gun on Fairmont Avenue near Holt Avenue on Sunday afternoon. Investigators believe the only motive is that he doesn't like cats.

Neighbors flagged down officers in the area and helped them find the suspect. It turns out Jefferson is on felony probation, so officers searched his home and found two BB guns and a handgun.

Police say the kitten's wound did not appear to be severe. The owners of the kitten later found a veterinarian to provide medical care to the animal.
