FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno man hopes home surveillance video will help identify a suspect who stole a package right off his front door step Monday afternoon.

If there's any consolation for Alfredo Reyes, it's that the thief who took a package from his home didn't exactly have a smooth getaway on his bike, and he didn't get away with anything too valuable-- all that was inside was a USB hub. "I could care less about the item right now, it's just the fact that they think they can get away with little things like this."

It could have been a bigger problem. Reyes said the package could have been important supplies for his fiance's medical condition. That's why he's sharing his story and his surveillance video-- to identify the man, and make sure it doesn't happen again. "In this case, it's unfortunate, but this does happen," said Mark Hudson, Fresno Police Sgt.

Even though the holidays are over Hudson said porch pirates are an ongoing problem throughout the city. But there are certain steps you can take to prevent this kind of theft. "Try to get it delivered to where somewhere it's going to be safe, to a work site or maybe even pick the package up from wherever that delivery service is delivering that package to instead of having it sent to your porch," said Hudson.

Or even ask a neighbor to keep an eye out.

Luckily, Reyes' security cameras got a good look at this porch pirate in a black Fresno State sweatshirt, baggy sweatpants, and a purple Vikings hat. And the red bike, which the suspect may still be learning how to ride.

Reyes has filed a police report and has also purchased some signs warning people that they are on camera.
