FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno Police Department is rallying behind one of their own this holiday season.

Officer Tim Murray serves on Fresno's Violent Crime Impact Team. Fresno police escorted him from an ambulance to waiting family and friends after a long drive from Southern California. For weeks countless colleagues have reached out voluntarily to support his wife and young daughter.

"Tim's job is everything to him. When you think about how much time police officers spend together, he spends probably more time with them in a good way than he does at home. I don't even know the words. It's overwhelming, it's beyond a thank you," said Leann Murray.

Murray's wife says her husband had a stroke at Disneyland earlier this month while celebrating their child's birthday. His intensive care and mounting bills have been expensive but that's where his department stepped in. Many officers have already donated to a Go Fund Me Page to help with unexpected costs.

Sgt. Mike Smith who supervised Murray says he earned everyone's respect on the job.

"He is very motivated. He is always the first guy there, the last guy to leave. You never have to ask him to do anything, he is always helping out," said Smith.

Murray's wife says the biggest help of all has been the constant stream of visitors from the department reminding the 35-year-old to get well soon.

"It was amazing how every single day there was another officer there with me. You hear about the connection the cops have and the brotherhood of the cops but until you see it, I can't even put it into words. It's overwhelming," said Murray.
