HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- Emily Salinas found out about the attempted kidnapping through Facebook.
"It's going around town," Salinas said.
Hanford Police said it happened Friday night just after 6 p.m., at Freedom Park, off 9 1/4 Avenue on the northeast side of the city.
"This park is really packed in the evenings, so I'm kind of surprised somebody tried to take a child from this park at that time," Salinas said.
Police said a nine-year-old girl was on the playground when a man tried to grab her arm.
"She ran screaming from him, back toward her family and then he fled in a red mustang with black racing stripes," said Hanford Police Sgt. Stephanie Huddleston.
The man reportedly had a mustache, was wearing a black and gray shirt, and a red baseball hat with an 'A' on it. Police said there were two other men inside the Ford Mustang, which had a loud exhaust. The girl's father called police and the search is still ongoing for the suspects.
"Just always keep a close eye on kids even if you're close by, things can happen and just want to make sure they're safe," Huddleston said.
Salinas agrees because she has a 14-year-old daughter to look after. But despite what happened on Friday, she says they'll still come to the park, together.
"Just make sure you keep an eye on your kids, and I'm sure a lot of parents already do that, this was just one of those really crazy incidents that somebody tried to swipe a kid in the middle of a packed park."
Police said the girl did everything right in this situation. If you think you've seen the suspect or the red Mustang with black stripes, call police.
