Hit-and-run driver sought in Atwater crash that killed teenage boy

ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are searching for the driver who killed a 16-year-old boy in Atwater and left the scene. Family members have identified the victim as Eric Ruiz. They say he was a junior at Atwater High School and was riding his skateboard when he was struck.

The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. Saturday at Shaffer Road and Della Drive. Police say witnesses spotted the victim lying in the southbound lanes. Emergency crews tried to revive the teen, but he was pronounced dead minutes later.

Investigators are still looking into how the crash happened and are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle to contact police.
