MAGEC cracks down on gangs in wake of violent shootings in Fresno
Local law enforcement agencies are working together to target gang members across Fresno County this weekend.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Local law enforcement agencies are working together to target gang members across Fresno County this weekend.

The Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) held a briefing Saturday afternoon before hitting the streets. Officers say they are actively contacting gang members and checking them for weapons and other violations. The goal is to cut down on violence after the City of Fresno had eight shootings in just four days this week.

"We know that with summer coming, an up-tick in the temperatures, there's going to be an up-tick in violence, and we've seen that in our city and our county over the last week especially. So we're bringing together a variety of agencies today to come together and go out and enforce the law," said Lt. Burke Farrah, Fresno Police, MAGEC.

As of 9 p.m., MAGEC officers had made 11 felony arrests and recovered three guns and a stolen vehicle.
