Man allegedly breaks into Merced laundry room, steals change

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced police say a man tried to take a laundry room to the cleaners.

Jay Jackson is accused of breaking into the laundry room at an apartment complex on K Street near 24th Street Sunday morning. Investigators say he drilled a hole in the coin box attached to one machine and stole all the change.

A witness reported the incident, and officers arrested the 51-year-old nearby. They also found $36 in coins and the drill, which was hidden behind some bushes.

Jackson was booked into jail on burglary charges.
