FRESNO, Calif. -- A man is under arrest, after leading Fresno Police on a chase and threatening officers with his vehicle.

It happened just before midnight near Bullard and Figarden in Northwest Fresno. Police say 40-year-old Alexander Amador was speeding, so they tried to pull him over. Amador reacted by trying to crash into one of the patrol cars.

Officers say he was speeding away from them in the opposite lane, threatening the lives of other drivers on the road. Amador then blew a tire, which slowed him down. He took a corner too fast and crashed, which is when officers made the arrest.

"Anytime someone actively makes an overt movement to strike a police vehicle, and then drives in that manner, it's imperative we take them into custody because if he's going to do that to a police officer, he's going to do that to any civilian that's out here," said Sgt. Justin Hoagland, Fresno Police Department.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. No one else was hurt.
