FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A teenager in turmoil after coming to his mother's defense. The boy stabbing her ex-boyfriend while he attacked her.
A case of domestic violence ended in death Friday morning after Fresno police said a man attacked his ex-girlfriend at a trailer park in Central Fresno. But investigators said the victim's 16-year-old son came to her defense-- stabbing the 46-year-old suspect ultimately killing him.
"The suspect pops up again just attacks the female gets on top of her-- the son believes his mother is being stabbed, grabs a kitchen knife and stabs the suspect multiple times," said Lt. Joe Gomez, Fresno Police Department.
According to investigators the woman had her door open and the man burst inside attacking her. Her son was doing dishes at the time and grabbed a knife.
Police said this was not the first time the man had visited her house since getting released from prison recently.
"On October 6th he came around with a knife, he was threatening her and her 16-year-old son-- at that time they filed a terrorist threats case. He was wanted for that and he was wanted for felony probation of warrant," said Gomez.
A neighbor witnessing that altercation called 911. She said after police left, the teenage boy came over and apologized for what took place.
"He was like, 'I'm really sorry,' you know. He's a real nice kid, it's just him and his mom."
The suspect died at Community Regional Medical Center.
Police said he has a long history of abuse involving the woman he allegedly assaulted Friday.
"He went to prison for busting up her face in 2014, so he's been trying to get back with her," said Gomez.
Neighbors are shocked by what happened and said violence like this just doesn't happen here.
"We've always been a quiet little community here and there's usually no trouble like that," said a neighbor.
It is not yet known if the son who stabbed the man will face any charges because police believe this was an act of self-defense.
The suspects identity at this time has not been released.
