FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Valley man is in jail after being accused of trying to set his mother on fire in Coalinga Friday morning.

Coalinga police say Cezar Oropeza, 22, had a property dispute with some family members. They told officers he left, but then came back with gasoline. Investigators believe he poured the gas onto the family's parked car near Madison and Sunset streets and then onto his mother after a brief struggle.

Authorities say Oropeza left in a stolen SUV, which they soon found in a field. They tracked him down hours later and arrested him for attempted arson, assault with a deadly weapon and auto theft.
