Man says 2 suspects beat and carjacked him in Southwest Fresno
Authorities are searching for two men accused of carjacking and beating a man in Southwest Fresno.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A late night conversation got a Fresno man in a lot of trouble and it led to a strange carjacking.

It all started when the 20-year-old victim left his job at Cargill meat packing plant. He pulled his car over in a nearby neighborhood, and called a female friend.

Lieutenant Joe Gomez described what the female friend heard on the phone. "He said they're gonna shoot me that's what she heard on the other side and also -- we're gonna kill him."

The woman immediately called police and then the victim's line went dead. Officers say the victim later told them that two men walked up to his car and attacked him.

Gomez said, "One of them took a concrete block and threw it through his window, pulled him out, pistol whipped him, he did have an injury consistent with that on his forehead."

At gunpoint, the victim was throw into the trunk of his own car. He had no idea where they were headed, just that there was a dirt road involved, and a u-turn. When the car stopped, the victim made a daring move.

Gomez added, "At some point he pulled the emergency release, he escaped from the vehicle ran to an orchard, and then went to a residence at Elm and Clayton."

As police were trying to find the victim they got a call from a homeowner saying a man was banging on their door, begging for help. As the victim was rushed to the hospital deputies found his car dumped at Fig and Clayton. The suspects were nowhere in sight.

As for the 20-year-old, he was simply talking on the phone. A target who was perhaps in the wrong place at the wrong time. But officers always suggest being aware of your surroundings and be wary of just where you stop to make that call.

"A lot of us pull over and talk on the phone," said Gomez. "Don't do it in a bad area."

Police are still looking for the two suspects. They don't have a lot to go on but say there may be some evidence in the victim's car and they're trying to see if there's surveillance video.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Fresno police at (559) 621-7000.
