FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are investigating a stabbing in East Central Fresno that may have revolved around a cigarette.

Fresno police officers arrested Paul Fernandez, 38, at an apartment on First Street and Princeton Avenue after witnesses saw him walking with a bloody knife Saturday morning.

He is accused of stabbing a 33-year-old acquaintance who was found lying nearby -- bleeding from his abdomen. The man told police that Fernandez asked him for a cigarette, and then stabbed him when he said "no."

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
