Man shot in Southeast Fresno as police continue gang crackdown

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police say a 22-year-old man is recovering after he was shot in the cheek Sunday morning on Backer Avenue in Southeast Fresno.

Fresno police officers are still searching for the suspect, but they believe the case is gang-related.

This comes as the department continues a gang crackdown that started December 3rd. Since that time, police have investigated 17 shootings with six people hit and three murders. That's compared to 27 shootings with 14 people hit and one murder in the weeks prior.

Officers have made a total of 460 arrests so far during the operation.
