A grassroots effort is underway to combat gang violence and meth use in Madera.

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A grassroots effort is underway to combat gang violence and meth use in Madera.

Residents and church leaders took part in a march from McNally Park to Courthouse Park Saturday morning. Organizers say they're trying to get the message out to people of all ages that there are alternatives to a life of crime on the streets.

This is the 7th year for the march. It ended with a resource fair featuring live music and food, plus several booths and testimonials from those who have overcome gangs and drugs.
