FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed in Merced on Saturday.

Merced police responded to the area of 9th and N streets shortly after 5 p.m. and found a 33-year-old man lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics tried to revive him, but he died at the scene.

Investigators say they are receiving conflicting information about the suspects, who are still on the run.

"The Merced Police Department has received information that subjects in a silver car were driving in the area and pulled up next to the victim (who was on foot) and shot several times at him. The vehicle left the area in an unknown direction," police said in a news release.

This is the city's 13th homicide this year. Police say it's not known if this was a gang-related shooting.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at (209) 385-4725.
