Mother of 3-year-old twin girls found stabbed to death in Merced apartment

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced police are investigating the murder of a young woman. 22-year-old Brittany Dutra was found stabbed to death in a Merced apartment early Thursday morning.

An apartment complex, next to the train tracks in Central Merced was the scene of a bloody homicide. Inside this apartment police found Brittany Dutra.

Lt. Chris Goodwin with the Merced Police Department said, "Officers found a 20 to 25-year-old woman on the floor she had been stabbed to death."

Residents of the apartment, and neighbors didn't want to talk about what happened to the young woman. In the video, you'll see a booking photo taken last month in the Merced County jail where Brittany Dutra was held on misdemeanor charges.

According to her Facebook postings Dutra was a 2011 graduate of Yosemite High and she also attended Merced College. Police are trying to figure out who killed her.

Lt. Goodwin explained, "The detectives are currently working contacting any witnesses they can trying to get additional information."

The death of Brittany Dutra is the 6th homicide in Merced this year.
