FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A natural gas leak shut down part of a busy intersection in Northwest Fresno on Friday.

It happened on West Avenue just south of Bullard. The area is occupied by four strip malls.

Fire and PG&E crews were called to the scene at about 8:30 a.m. Fire officials say the pavement was bubbling from gas pressure under the road's surface.

The leak was fixed by noon. Businesses in the area were still open while repairs were made.

Fire officials say nearby schools -- Malloch Elementary and Starr Elementary -- were never in any danger.
