Obama Looks to Blackhawks for Assist on Supreme Court Nomination

POTUS has the home-ice advantage.

President Obama today honored the Chicago Blackhawks for their 2015 Stanley Cup win and joked about using the hockey team's drafting expertise to help him choose a nominee for the Supreme Court.

"Each year the Hawks keep on winning; it is as I said a tribute to the front office," he said at the White House. "It is also, by the way, a tribute to the head of the scouting who just told me that he could help me pick my Supreme Court justice."

The president's hometown team presented him with a miniature version of the Stanley Cup, a sweater and a parking pass to the United Center.

"This is the best gift I've ever gotten," the president said of the pass. "This is really cool."

- Molly Nagle (@MollyNagle3) February 18, 2016This is the third time the president has hosted his hometown team, after a "hat trick" of wins in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

Team captain Jonathan Toews said this visit is as exciting as the previous trips to The White House.

"It's equally as special, I would say," the Canadian center said. "The fact that we've been able to come here three times while President Obama is in office is a pretty cool thing."

The Blackhawks lead the Western Conference and are second overall in the NHL this season.
