One person injured during Central Fresno home invasion where 6 people were tied up and robbed

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A home invasion in Central Fresno has left one man with severe bruises after one of the suspects beat him with a handgun. The silence of the night along East Cambridge Avenue near Fresno City College was interrupted Wednesday when police said three men broke into a home where six people were inside.

One of the victims, startled by what happened, dialed 911 while locked inside his closest.

"The victim called in saying there were three subjects inside his home armed with guns," said Sgt. Diana Trueba, Fresno Police Department.

That weapon was a .40 caliber gun and police said the suspects, 23-year-old Juan Garcia, 27-year-old Mark Nino, and 30-year-old Jacob Moyoa, also came armed with something else.

"The suspects had zip ties, plastic zip ties, and a couple of the victims were zip tied," said Trueba.

We knocked on the door to check on the victims, but no one answered even though the lights were on inside. But as we stepped away, Brent Dermer stepped out. He lives at the home and wasn't there when the home invasion took place. However, Dermer said the frightening encounter left one of his roommates with serious injuries.

"He got pistol whipped in the head twice, one gashed his head, the other one concussed him, so he was in concussion warning for a while."

Police said the suspects all took off. One tried to escape in a getaway car but was caught by officers on Cambridge and Blackstone after driving with no lights. The other two were found hiding in the side and front yards of a nearby house with handgun magazines in their pockets. One of the suspects, Moya, was already wanted on a DUI warrant.

Dermer said after this terrifying ordeal he and his roommates are now planning to move.

"Yesterday was kind of an eye-opener, it could have been deadly."

Police said this was an isolated incident and they want neighbors nearby to not feel threatened.
