Pickup driver killed in crash with big rig in Northwest Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Northwest Fresno.

Officers say a man drove his truck into the back of a big rig on Highway 99 near Herndon on Saturday morning. They believe the semi driver was stopping to avoid some empty cardboard boxes in the northbound lanes, and the man driving the Toyota Tacoma didn't realize that in time.

The 42-year-old driver of the pickup died at the scene. Authorities are still looking into why he didn't see the big rig stopping.
