SWAT officer shot while serving search warrant in San Gabriel
A Pomona SWAT officer was shot while trying to serve a search warrant in San Gabriel on Tuesday.

SAN GABRIEL, Calif. -- A Pomona SWAT officer was shot and injured while trying to serve a search warrant in San Gabriel on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 4 a.m. near the intersection of West Hermosa and Las Tunas drives. A perimeter was established around the area. According to investigators, the officer was sitting in his SWAT vehicle when he was shot.

The officer was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena in critical condition. As of 6 a.m., he was undergoing surgery. A person close to the investigation told Eyewitness News that the officer was possibly shot in the neck with an exit wound through the face.

Authorities said a suspect has been taken into custody and there are no outstanding suspects.

The identity of the officer was not immediately released, but officials said he is a 15-year veteran with the Pomona Police Department.

Police officers with Pomona, Montebello, San Gabriel and Alhambra police departments were on scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's homicide bureau was investigating the incident.
