Residents escape as fire destroys Southwest Fresno apartments
An investigation is underway into an early morning apartment fire.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway into an early morning apartment fire.

The fire was reported at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning at a complex on Church at Martin Luther King. About 45 firefighters were called to the scene to battle the flames.

At one point the roof started to cave in and firefighters had to get out of the building and off the roof. A ladder truck with a water cannon was brought in to help douse the flames.

"The building that was involved in the fire has a four-plex, so there is four apartments in the building that was involved in the fire. It has a common attic. Of those four units there was about 15 occupants that were ... totally displaced," said Brian Price, Fresno Fire Department.

Everyone got out of the four-plex safely. There were no reports of injuries, and because the building was created from individual four-plexes, firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading.
