A 14-year-old boy is in the hospital Thursday with severe burns following a gas explosion in Fowler.

FOWLER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 14-year-old boy is in the hospital Thursday with severe burns following a gas explosion in Fowler.

It happened last night near Sunnyside Avenue and Sumner Avenue. Authorities said a gas burner on an outside kitchen was left on for hours. They say it exploded while the boy was trying to turn it off.

The boy was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with third degree burns, but his condition has not been released.
