Vallejo police shoot man after allegedly trying to ambush officers
Investigators are looking into a possible ambush attack targeting Vallejo police.

VALLEJO, Calif. -- Police say a man with an assault-type rifle, handgun and body armor was shot by cops after a confrontation Sunday night at a Vallejo Starbucks.

The busy area where it happened is right next to a gas station, off of I-80. The two officers were inside Starbucks when they say they were ambushed by the suspect. They say he tried to fire at them, but his gun malfunctioned.

ABC7 News was first to obtain surveillance video of the moments following the attempted attack. Police started chasing him, guns drawn. They say he kept trying to fire at officers as he fled the scene.

Police say they still felt their lives were threatened.

The officers shot the suspect three times at Magazine and Sheridan streets and he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The officers are OK and Vallejo police plan to hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. to give more information.
