FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- We are just one week away from Thanksgiving and Valley nonprofits are working around the clock to make sure everyone gets a Thanksgiving meal.
The ovens are already warming up at the Salvation Army's Silvercrest Senior Apartment Complex. Employees will start cooking the 10 turkeys they already have in the freezer, but are hoping for donations of 60 more turkeys to feed more than 300 seniors and their families this Thanksgiving holiday.
The Salvation Army has already started decorating for the lunchtime Thanksgiving meal for the seniors Saturday. Then on Thanksgiving Day, they feed more seniors in Clovis.
At the Povorello House, volunteers are busy preparing meals for 1,500 of Fresno's homeless. This week the non-profit started its annual turkey drive but have found there's less donations compared to this time last year.
Right now the Povorello House has about 212 turkeys but it's far from their goal of 1200. The turkeys don't just feed the homeless and an extra 800 people on Thanksgiving Day, but provide food for homeless families throughout the entire year.
The nonprofits are helping provide a hearty meal and a sense of community to those who need it most.
