Woman rescued from canal in Central Fresno
The Fresno Fire Department said a woman was stranded in the canal on Wednesday morning.

A woman is recovering after a daring canal rescue in Central Fresno.

Dive team members suited up and used ropes and cables to help pull the 40-year-old woman out of the canal. Around 8:30 this morning, people walking near Effie and Hammond heard the woman calling for help. Fresno firefighters rushed to the scene where they found her stuck.

Firefighters say the woman was leaning over the canal and ended up falling in. Officials say she was able to stay afloat for about 30 minutes before someone heard her and called 911.

"The extraction took about 23 minutes. It allowed us enough time to get set up. The person was not in any distress which actually helped the situation. At the end of the day we had a successful rescue," said Hector Vasquez, Fresno Fire Department.

Firefighters say the woman denied further treatment at the scene and seems to be doing well.
