Visalia man killed by drunk driver while crossing the street, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Visalia Police say 21-year-old Jessie Contreras was killed after Claudio Cruz-Torres hit him with a pickup truck while he was crossing the street.

Police said Torres was driving a Chevy pickup truck south on Dinuba Boulevard near Vine Avenue when he hit Contreras, who was crossing the street on foot. Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, authorities said they determined that Torres was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility.
