VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A mother in Visalia is going to prison for killing her infant son. Jennifer Granberg showed no emotion in court Thursday morning after learning she was heading to state prison. She's been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. Last month she pled no contest to second degree murder in the case.

Granberg's son died in April of 2012 after being burned by hot water. Investigators said she didn't get help soon enough after it happened.

Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward explained, "There was no medical care that was provided and some of the experts that we consulted provided the opinion that created a situation that the child the infant went from having a chance at life to no chance at all."

Granberg's boyfriend pled no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the case. He is not the baby's father. He will be sentenced later this month.
