VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Visalia's police chief was officially given his new badge on Monday afternoon. Chief Jason Salazar was presented with his badge in a pinning ceremony at the Visalia Convention Center.

Salazar was named acting police chief earlier this year when Colleen Mestas took a leave of absence for health reasons. Her retirement became official last month.

Salazar has been with the department since 1993 and is the city's first Latino police chief.
