Visalia stabbing suspect turns self in before police knew what he'd done

A suspect in the stabbing death of a Visalia man turned himself in, before police even knew what he'd done.

Kyle Matthew Ferguson, 32, walked into a police substation just as officers were arriving at the scene of the stabbing a few blocks away.

Ferguson is now charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Carlos Renteria Tapia, o Visalia.

Police say the stabbing occurred during a big fight involving a large group of people, in the 100 block of Strawberry Street Tuesday night.

Sgt. Damon Maurice with the Visalia Police Department said, "There was a large fight involving numerous neighbors including adult males and females it also included our victim and suspect."

The fight appeared to have started between family members and involved neighbors. One witness told Action News, Tapia was trying to break up the fight when he was stabbed.

Kyle Matthew Ferguson is being held in the Tulare County jail.
