Wildfire in Kern county expected to hit 50,000 acres burned

KERN COUNTY (KFSN) -- A deadly wildfire east of Bakersfield, near Lake Isabella, could reach 50,000 acres by the end of Monday.

So far 45,388 acres have burned, along with at least 200 homes.

It also killed an elderly couple found Friday in a burned-out mobile home.

More than 2,000 homes in the area remain threatened and hundreds of people are still at emergency shelters.

The Davis', a couple evacuated because of the fire, said, "We wonder when it's gonna get back to normal. Are we gonna be placed somewhere else kinda helpless feeling. You feel helpless. Yup-- homeless and helpless."

"Losing a house at age 29-- it's hard. I don't wish this on nobody," said Brandi Pettit, home destroyed.

The wildfire is now 40-percent contained.

Crews hope to have the wildfire fully this Thursday.
