Willow Fire suspect to undergo psychological evaluation
The teenage boy accused of starting the Willow Fire near Bass Lake appeared in court on Wednesday.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The teenage boy accused of starting the Willow Fire near Bass Lake appeared in court on Wednesday.

According to the Madera County District Attorney's Office, the hearing scheduled for Friday has been canceled so the teen can undergo a psychological evaluation.

The teen will now be released to his parents' custody, on house arrest and may only leave his home for school and counseling appointments.

The wildfire sparked last month and burned 5,700 acres in the Sierra National Forest. Prosecutors say the teen used a lighter to light a dry branch on fire in his yard -- which they say sparked the Willow Fire.

The teen faces two felony charges of arson and negligence.
