Wrong way driver dies in CHP custody

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A wrong way driving suspect stopped breathing and died after being handcuffed in a CHP car on Interstate 5 near Nees Avenue.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Banos responded to a wrong way driver on Tuesday night around 7 p.m. on Interstate 5 north of Nees Avenue. Officers said after a struggle, they were able to take the man into custody. The man was handcuffed and placed into the patrol car -- then stopped breathing.

At this time, it is unknown why the man died.
