FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Get your Valentines ready because you can help Fresno Humane Animals Services just by dropping off a card at their 'Smooches 4 Pooches' event.

Amanda Allen, with Fresno Humane, explained a local dentist Dr. Ryan Dunlop is donating $1 for every Valentine that is brought in, up to $750.

Allen said that Dr. Dunlop has deep roots with shelter animals, saying he grew up going to the shelter and taking part in day camps.

"So his heart is with the animals," she said. "He just recently is fostering a puppy from us and his family is just really enjoying it. We are definitely feeling blessed by this family that loves the animals."

Allen mentioned 'Smooches 4 Pooches' is a one day event so the cards have to be brought on February 14.

"You can just go dog to dog and give them a valentine. They need the faces of the people to let them know that they are valued and loved and foot traffic might result in more walks or meet-in-greets which may result in adoptions," Allen said.

People can also bring in treats, food, leashes, and collars, however, those will not count towards the 'Smooches 4 Pooches' event.

They also have a special going the following weekend.

People can pick a "sucker" (lollipop) from their "sucker" bouquet. At the bottom of their "sucker" will be a color for a certain discount.

"You get to choose a sucker for yourself but if you look at the bottom of the stem color of the sucker, if it's black you get $50 off, if it's red you get $20 off, and if it's white its $10 off," Allen said.
