Fresno Police are investigating the death of a homeless man who was found unresponsive at a shopping center behind Round Table Pizza in Northeast Fresno early Wednesday morning.

When officers arrived a man was lying on the ground and he appeared to not be breathing and appeared to have suffered an unknown type injury to his upper body.

Officers and EMS personnel began to render aid, but he had already succumbed to his injuries. EMS pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Homicide investigators, along with a Fresno County Deputy Coroner, assisted on the call and observed a suspicious injury on the man. He was then transported to the Fresno County Coroner's Office for further examination. An x-ray showed he had been shot.

The victim's identity will not be released pending an autopsy and his family being notified of his death. The shooting does not appear to be gang-related.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fresno Police Department.
